The Friench Simpson Memorial Library local history/genealogy collection concentrates on Lavaca County and adjoining counties. A wide range of materials is availableincluding books, microfilms and historic photographs.

Highlights of the collection feature eleven books about Lavaca County written by Judge Paul C. Boethel and six books of cemetery listings. The archives include World War II news clippings, rural school photographs, Hallettsville Volunteer Fire Department records, and Masonic records. The surname vertical file collection includes materials donated by Judge Paul C. Boethel, the Charles Hrncir family and Elsie Smothers. Our microfilm collection features the 1850-1920 Lavaca County census, tax rolls and issues of the Hallettsville Herald, Tribune Herald and New Era, the Shiner Gazette, the Moulton Eagle and the Yoakum Times and much more.

The library's recent addition of 1,950 square feet greatly expanded our Local History/Genealogy area.
