SUBLIME AREA, LAVACA COUNTY, TEXAS
This small family cemetery has eight markers and some small crosses on unmarked graves. The oldest marker is for Ziltha Hinsley Mims, who died 22 January 1858. To get to the cemetery go west from Sublime on 90A and cross the Navidad River. Take the first road to the left, CR 132, and the cemetery is on the left about a mile.
Though the cemetery is very old, there are two recent burials. The latest was Eva. L. Whitley in 1999. A memorial marker was placed fairly recently with the inscription, "William Mims, Zilpha Hinsley Mims, "GTT" 1841, (On the Headwaters of the Lavaca and the Navidad, Boethel, 1967, pp. 30-40), JB, WO, SIP".v
When Tise surveyed the cemetery in 1980 there were small crosses on fourteen otherwise unmarked graves. Johnnie Boysen of Cuero provided information to Tise on ten people buried in unmarked graves for inclusion in his sixth volume of Lavaca County, Texas Cemetery Records. While at the time Carolyn Grace Mims, 1820-1849, wife of Henry Mims, was believed buried in the Judd Cemetery, it is now known that she had moved away to Mobile, Alabama and was buried in that vicinity. More information can be found in the second printing, copyrighted 2003, of William M. Mims, Texas Ranger and his Clan by Shirley Insall Pieratt and Johnnie L. Boysen
The cemetery was photographed in January 2009 by June Draper.
