James (Jim) BAROS who was apparently killed around the river bottoms near county line-he had been shot. When his horse came home without him the family went looking and found him. This apparently happened 1900-1910. The story I was told that James was pecan hunting in river bottoms between Lavaca and Gonzales county. Most of the Baros people lived in Lavaca Co and are buried in St. Anns cemetery. I visited my great uncle Albert Baros in 1992, he would have known and been able to give me the correct story - all of the old timers in that family are gone now. Thanks for any help. Dorothy Tanner

Moses BAUCOM and wife Lucie came to Texas from Tennessee in the 1870's. They were first found on a census from Davis Co. **My first question is where is Davis Co.? All I can find is that Davis Co. was discontinued.** From there they went to Halletsville. Their last 4 children (Malissa, Maggie, Molly, and Dolly) were born in Lavaca Co. (Halletsville, and Sweet Home), between the years of 1875 and1883. (they had 11 children, the first 7 were born in TN). On a family group sheet I was sent a few years ago, their residence is shown as "plantation" in Halletsville. Does anyone know of this family? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to share material on Baucom's or related families. Thank you. Sandra Vossler P.O.Box 1705 Winnemucca, NV 89446

My name is Thomas E. BONORDEN. My great-grandfather was Bernhard H. Bonorden. My great grandmother was Mary SALLENTINE. They married in Feb. 1856, Lavaca County Texas. My grandfather, Henry William Bonorden, born 1863, didn't seem to pass any information about this Suzanna to my father, Arthur E. Bonorden, born 1893. This is a very big mystery. NELSON, Doctor Frank Hamer; m 1st: Anne DAVISON; Children; Frank, Fred, Elisabeth "Daisy Mae", Charles Hamer; Moved to DeWitt County prior to 1880. m 2nd: Oct 2, 1882 to Anna Mary HUGO of Petersville, DeWitt County. Anna was the daughter of Paul and Elisa Hugo. Doctor Nelson may have practiced in Yoakum, just miles from the Hugo/Clausewitz property in Petersville, where his 1st wife and perhaps Charles Hamer and another child of his may be buried in the "Hugo/Clausewitz" family plot. The DeWitt County 1880 Federal Census shows he is a physican at the time. So some time between the 1880 census and the marriage to Anna Hugo his 1st wife died and perhaps Charles Hamer Nelson. I am trying to locate any information on Dr. Nelson and his descendants. Since Yoakum is on the border of DeWitt and Lavaca counties there is a good chance some records could exist in Lavaca county. Unable to locate anything on Dr. Nelson. All information is appreciated. Thank you, Marie Talbott,

Need help on my gr-gr-grandfarther William TUBBS. Census data varies, so all dates approximate. I think he was born around 1807 in KY. His father was born in SC and his mother in NC. He married in Alabama before 1837, her name might be Rody. William was the farther of William M., Sarah, John C, and maybe Wiley. Other children possible. He was in Austin County TX in 1860. His children are listed in Austin County in 1870, but William had returned to Alabama to marry Caroline BUFF HORN, widow of Little Page Calloway Horn of Perry County Alabama. William and Caroline married 31 July 1870. Their oldest son , Thomas Berry Tubb was born just after arriving back in Tex. In May of 1871. Their son, Leon Ernest Tubb was born in September of 1873. Around 1876, Caroline older son by her first marriage "ran off" William Tub for being abusive to Caroline. On 1880 census, William Tubb, age 73 is living with his son from first marriage, William M. in Lavaca Co. Tx; 10 yr. old Berry is living with his half sister Sarah and her husband J. S. ROSE in Lavaca County and Caroline, with 7 yr. old son, Ernest is living with her daughter, Fanny Horn HARRY in Yaokum, Colorado Co, TX. Any help would be appreciated. Betty Vaughn

ADAMS, William Alexander, Janette KUYKENDALL, and son Abner DeWITT: found on 1850 census with Lewis and Lucretia STILWELL. Later moved to Goliad, where William died in December 1870. Thereafter, the family removed to Frio County. The Kuykendalls are well-researched, but William is a real mystery man. They are my g/g/g/grandparents. If anyone has any information on this family, I would be very grateful to have it. Does anyone know why they might be living with the Stilwells? Any little clue could be of great value. Happy to share any information I have.

Looking for the ancestors of Cynthia KELLY and William SMOTHERS. William Smothers married Cynthia Kelly June 09, 1844 Gonzales County, Texas and had eight children. He maintained two stores in Hallettsville. TX and was a militant in having Hallettsville established as the county seat rather than Petersburg (early Zumwalt Settlement) to the south. When Petersburg lost the election for seat and refused to give up the county records, Smothers formed a posse, seized the records in Petersburg and escorted them to Hallettsville to the temporary county seat buildings he had provided for the new officials. William Smothers was a "hell-raiser" who loved to drink and gamble and in 1850 operated a liquor store in Hallettsville and operated a pool hall and gaming room in the establishment, indicted at least 9 times for breaking local liquor laws and over 17 times for gambling. Multiple times he was either on the receiving or giving end of local assault cases, acquitted in some and paying fines in others. After all that he was elected sheriff in 1860 and active in recruiting companies of local men for frontier service as rangers and later the Civil War. He was in the freighting business and finally killed in a shoot out with a Union agent in 1863. His son A.J. Smothers was Sheriff of Lavaca Co in 1882-1888. Regards, Debbie

Louis MRAZ b 6/1852 in Bohemia Immigrated in 1883 with his wife Marketta or Margaretha b 7/1855 in Bohemia immigrated in 1883 with their children: Maria, b. 3/1876; John, b 7/1879; Theresa, b 9/1881, all in Bohemia; Adolf, b 6/1883; Frank, b 8/1886; Louis, b 12/1888; Joe, b 12/1889; Eva, b 12/1893; Rosina, b 7/1894 all in Moulton, Lavaca County, Texas. This info came from Lavaca County Census record for 1900, at which time he was listed as naturalized. It also lists him as being married for 20 years and that his wife had 10 children with 9 living at the time of the census. My belief is that the last female child, Rosina was born premature and could have possibly had a twin who died at birth. The birthdate for Eva is 12/1893. The birthdate for Rosina is 7/1894 only 7 months later. Naturalization records do not have him listed. They only list Jacob Mraz, 8/10/1898, age 40, from Austria, John Mraz 2/15/1897 from Austria, and Tom Mraz 2/15/1897 from Austria. I have been told that Louis had a brother named Tom but have not been able to comfirm if this is him. The village of birth listed for Jacob is Jelivka or Jelinka. Does any one know of these villages? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. Elizabeth Mraz in Houston, Texas
