I am looking for the marriage of Claude ARMSTRONG, to a Mrs. Georgia GIFFIN. This was the 2nd marriage for both Claude and Georgia. Georgia's 1st husband was James Bruce Giffin, who died before 1924. Their children were Lillian Giffin, b. abt. 1912, and Bruce E. Giffin, b. abt. 1915. Claude's 1st wife, Mae EANES, died in July 1924, and he supposedly married Georgia soon thereafter. I have looked at marriage records for all the counties that I have known Claude to live in at the Family History Library, with no luck. Then I found a James Bruce Giffin on the TX death record index, having died in Lavaca Co. Unfortunately, Lavaca Co. marriage records aren't available at the FHL, so haven't checked into them yet. Has anyone heard of the Giffin family, or know what Georgia's maiden name was? A family rumor was that it was STAKES. Claude's son didn't take to the new wife, as they got married too soon after his mother's death, plus he was a grown man (b. 1899), so I know hardly anything about Georgia, and would like to know more. Thanks! Rhonda A. Bell

Denise (Dornak) Cook Mon, 3 Apr 2000 09:55:49
Searching for information on Frank DORNAK or Mary (Dornak) KUTACH, children of Augustin & Mariana/Mary (SMOLIK) Dornak. Augustin & Mariana Dornak emigrated from Pribor, Moravia, Czechoslovakia in 1880. They had 5 children, August F. (married Karolina Kutach), Leopoldina (did not marry), John (married Terezie (Theresa) JANAK), Mary (married William Kutach) and Frank (do not know spouse's name). The family entered U.S. at Galveston & settled in Lavaca County. We know that at least August F., Leopoldina and John were born in Cz. but don't know about Frank and Mary. If they were born in the U.S., they most likely would have been born in Lavaca County in or after 1880. Re: Frank Dornak - believe he did marry & had at least 2 children, possibly a boy & a girl. Believe the male child may have become a doctor who practiced in Houston (possibly named William or Frank - possibly those were first & middle names, but believe he went by William). Also believe this son served in the military at one time. No information on other children except we think he had at least one more, possibly a daughter. Re: Mary (Dornak) Kutach - Married to William Kutach & settled in Hobson, Karnes County, Texas. Know they had at least 2 children - a son, Valerian, and a daughter, Matilda. Believe they may have had at least 2 more children. Any information would be appreciated.

George Samuel McGILL - b: April 22, 1881 in Hallettsville, Texas (Lavaca County); m: Deadro Sylvester (Eddie) Halliburton July 17, 1906 in Waelder, Texas (Gonzales County); d: October 2, 1949 in Austin, Texas (Travis County). I have records for the above plus that he owned land in Gonzales County. Relatives tell me George Samuel he had two sisters, Molly who never married and Willie who married someone named French. Can't find any records on them. Relatives say George Samuel's father (No one knows his name) owned some Indian slaves and lived somewhere in East Texas. They also tell me that the slaves are buried on his property there. There is an old picture with a sign in it that says McGill Reservation. They think he might have been part Indian or married an Indian woman. If anyone researching the McGills, might have any information that could get me out of the three above-mentioned counties it would be truly appreciated. There are McGill's all over Texas but cannot seems to connect them to George Samuel. The few remaining relatives are in their 90's and don't know how accurate they are with their stories. If anyone thinks they may be able to give me a lead please e-mail me at smcgill@flash.net. Any information you might have would help. Thanks. Sandi

Would love to have an historical marker placed on the highway near where the Sublime, Texas School was located until the early 1950s. Don't have enough information on the beginnings of the school to satisfy requirements of the State for such a marker. Think the school was started when the towns of Honey Creek, Smoothing Iron, and a couple of other surrounding towns, moved to where present Sublime is located when the railroad was put in. Anyone out there who can help document and write up info for such a marker? Dolores Kinsey

Boris F Rice Sat, 16 Dec 2000 13:24:58
My ancestor J.W. RICE married Elizabeth Rice in 1842. At that time the marriage was recorded in Colorado county. The record appears in the book 'Early Marriages in Texas' at the Clayton Library in Houston. His son was James H. Rice, a Civil War veteran from Lavaca county. I have a great deal of information from 1850 forward. I also have letters from Paul Boethel who did some research about the Rice family. My relatives are mentioned several times in Paul Boethel's books. J.W. Rice seems to have disappeared in the 1840's as he is not listed in the family in the 1850 census - only Elizabeth Rice and her son are mentioned. I don't know whether he died in this period of time or just what happened. I would be interested in sharing information and learning what I can. Best regards, Boris Rice, 11319 Wickersham Lane, Houston, TX 77077-6825, Phone 291.496.7152.
