Salem Cemetery

LAVACA COUNTY, TEXAS

There are over one thousand graves in this large, well kept cemetery next to the Salem Baptist Church in the Salem community. The two oldest graves are for J. R. Martin who died April 16, 1861 and L. Nelson whose death is noted only as 1861. A sign in front of the church states it was established July 14, 1857. To visit the cemetery go south from Hallettsville on Highway 77 to FM 531. Turn left and drive about two miles toward Ezzell. The church and cemetery are on the left side of FM 531.
