With over 250 markers, the Geiger Cemetery is one of the bigger cemeteries in the Sublime area.
Traveling east from Hallettsville on Hwy. 90 A, turn left on CR 146 at Sublime. Travel 2.8 miles on CR 146. There are three signs along this county road marking the way to the cemetery which is on the right side of the road.
The cemetery gate sign says 1870, but the oldest marker is for Herman Strunk, who died in September 1868. The Sublime Zion Lutheran Church was built at this spot in 1887. In 1905 it was moved board by board to its present location and rebuilt exactly like the old church.
Sandra Long Anders photographed many of the cemetery's markers on June 7, 2008. Photos will be e-mailed upon request. The markers were photographed (as indicated by the numbering in the following list) as the cemetery was walked – starting to the left of the gate. Double markers are noted with duplicate numbers in the listing. (For example, there are two #1s—Valentine & Bertha Scott share a double tombstone but the information is itemized separately. There are three #33s—the tombstone is for 3 individuals—possibly a husband and two wives.) Only a couple of the tombstones photographed are difficult to read because of deterioration.
