Willow Creek Black Cemetery

Also known as the Greenville Cemetery, the Willow Church Cemetery and the William Creek Cemetery

SUBLIME, LAVACA COUNTY, TEXAS

This part of the Willow Creek Cemetery adjoins the white section and is well kept and fenced. There are 176 markers in the cemetery. The oldest marker is for Senna Taylor, who died in 1873. Silas Taylor was 113 years old at the time of his death in 1917 and is buried there.

There are veterans from WW I, WW II, Korea and Vietnam buried in this section of the Willow Creek Cemetery.

The types of headstones in this section of the cemetery are rock, wood, limestone, cement, and granite. There are many, many unmarked graves in this section. A number of stones are eroded and can no longer be read. Some are broken. Some graves are marked with funeral home markers and can no longer be read. Still some graves are marked with field stones and wood. There are VA markers and Woodsmen of the World markers in this section.

The cemetery was surveyed between Oct. 24, 2003 and Feb. 3, 2004 by Norma Casey. The spellings listed in this survey are as they are written on the headstones. Where there were no dates, nothing is listed but the name.
FHM=funeral home marker.

In Sublime turn off of Hwy. 90A onto FM 3283 and head South for approx. 6 miles. The cemetery is on the right side of the road. There is a fence separating this section of the cemetery from the other section.

See pictures taken of the headstones and submitted to the Texas Tombstone Project, TXGENWEB Lavaca County
